How do you determine which pot or pan is safe for oven use? Most pots, pans or skillet will have an oven safe symbols on the bottom to indicate it can tolerate oven temperature.  You need to know what material the cookware is made of.  What is the coating of the pan, or the hand and lid material made of.  Is the pan broiler safe as some of  these materials conduct heat well and does not undergo chemical reactions in high temperatures as some other metals do and affects taste.

Most oven safe pans are made of aluminum, cast iron, copper, stainless steel and are generally safe up to at least 350℉. Hard anodized  aluminum and stainless steel are oven safe up to 500℉.  The use of wood, plastic and silicone handles are not advisable to use in the broiler.  Non stick cookware is not designed for high temperatures of a broiler.  Removing the glass covering or its plastic handles still gets damaged by the high temperature of the oven because of the Teflon coating on the non-stick pots and pans starts to deteriorate and give off toxic fumes at a higher temperature.

Cast iron pans are suitable and fit for baking and considered safe by seasoning it correctly.  They are made of only metal which withstands high heat.

Stainless steel pots and pans are durable and non reactive and so is safe for oven use. Stainless steel pans have low conductivity to heat and so it is not considered for baking.

Copper pans is one of the best metals as it has excellent heating conducting abilities.  Any temperature adjustments made to the oven the copper reacts and alters their temperature. Due to its high reactivity it cannot handle high temperatures.

Ceramic pans are great for baking as it heats up gradually.  The ceramic coating is non reactive and this makes the pan more  suitable for baking.
